The Lord is in His Holy Temple; let all the earth keep silent before Him!
I almost tremble as I try to write and relate all that has happened. The workings of God are tremendous and He is to be greatly praised! There were 136 people at our meeting last night which was held outdoors in the town circle. Eric Y and Jeff W set up a sound system and sheet for a projection screen. There was beautiful music both live and on pre recorded, with the words written on the screen. It was incredibly cold for this region and yet people sat and listened so intently that you could have heard a pin drop. Seldom have I witnessed a meeting where the young and old were so intent on hearing. Juan gave an appeal at the end for Baptism and 4 people stood up. They are scheduled to be baptized in church tomorrow. A young man and young woman, a teenage girl and a young boy. Tonight there will be another meeting and another appeal. I could not understand more than a few words as it was in Spanish, but what I could understand was that I felt very strongly the presence of the Lord and His Holy Spirit. Today Juan received a call requesting that he come and speak to the University youth at the school. He spoke to about 150 young adults for about 30 minutes. Once again the place was silent except for the speaker. The director called again and asked if Juan would come back and let the students have a question and answer time. They want to know just how he was able to get off of drugs and alcohol and about his relationship with Jesus. This is just so exciting to be able to watch the workings of the Lord.
Bob, Kim, Rigo, Fernando and I went into town today to look for another place to hold our VBS and evening meetings for adults. The place that we had arranged for in the beginning is now not available for the entire time. But as of yesterday Bob had it in his heart that the adult meetings needed to be in town circle where we held the youth meeting. All the plans that were made originally have turned to dust it seems. But .that is only because the Lord has brought us into a better situation. We met with the Mayor today. Bob decided to just walk in without an appointment and meet him. The Mayor has also been changed since the pre trip. Well he welcomed us with open arms and I am sure there was an angel sitting on his desk and probably on his shoulder too. He offered his help and his town and said his town is ours for what ever we need. His response was to say a thousand thank you to us and to let us know he is on our side and will do anything he can for us. He then said that when we are here, we are at home. Bob had a beautiful and touching prayer for him, his town, and our mission work for his people. He then invited us to meet his assistants and they offered us the town ambulance to ride around town announcing on their speaker about the meetings tonight and next week. It was just more than we had ever expected and for certain the Lord has gone before us preparing the way. We now have an even better place in which to hold V B S and to use for the medical clinics next week. We will hire someone to sleep in that building each night to keep it secure so we can leave our medical supplies each night.
There were over 200 people at the medical clinic by 10 a.m. today. Kim B says they are seeing the usual things as in other areas we have been to. Impetigo, ringworm, parasites, asthma and coughs with fever. Today they treated one young boy with severe asthma who took 3 breathing treatments before they saw an improvement. One man came in with myocardiamyopathy and another lady with a cancerous growth on her lip. Both are things that are not in our ability to treat in the clinic. As bad as the situation with insurance is in America, at least most have the ability to have some or rely on some type of free care, not just be turned away with no hope. These trips are so great in making us thankful for what we have, which is so very much. The rest of our totes came today and we are very thankful for that. That means no more long trips to the airport for awhile. We have another dentist flying in today to work with us. His name is Dr. Ki Ly and he is coming in from Canada. He is a friend of Dr. Turner and has worked with him before.
Renita Turner smashed one of her fingers with a brick yesterday, but she is such a trouper that she is right back on the construction site. Amy B. was a little under the weather this morning too but recovered very quickly and rushed right off to work at the construction site. These kinds of things are not normal reactions; we are being lead by a supernatural source to love serving others. How can anyone not believe in God after watching the work that goes on during these mission trips? We have 4 young missionary men that have stopped to visit with us. One is the nephew of Kevin B. they have been in Belize, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and when they leave here they are off to Nicaragua, Costa Rico and Panama and onward. I will post their names and email addresss at the last day of my writings,
The medical clinic saw 377 patients today. The dental clinic saw 50 patients and did 80 extractions, one poor man passed out 2 times during his visit. He had an empty stomach so he was weak, add a pinch for fear and 3 teeth removed and down he went. The hygienist cleaned the teeth of 22 patients. The optical clinic past out 90 pair of glasses The construction team put down 708 bricks today. You will notice that I have been saying bricks and not blocks, that is not a mistake, this building will be made of brick.
There are now pictures of our mission work posted on our website that you may look at. More will be put up as we progress. Go to www.Berkshiremission.org to see the latest photos. Our mission this time is to build a Dorcas building, where the poor may come and obtain clothing and food. And as always we are having medical, dental and optical clinics. Our VBS program is something so fantastic that it is hard for the adults not to stay to participate. It is complete with a very professional quality puppet show each night along with singing and stories of Jesus. We will be running our usual evangelistic meeting starting Monday night and ending it with the Jesus video. This year we also have the added blessing of having an incredible youth/young adult outreach program. There are 49 missionaries on this trip May the Lord Jesus be blessed and magnified in all that we say and do.
But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:7, 8 Dont forget to P.U.S.H ( pray until something happens) Still smiling, Jennifer Young, Mission reporter
