Greetings from sunny Valle De Angeles, Honduras, where God is alive and about to encompass His people in a special blessing of mercy and love!
Our flight to Tegucigalpa was easy and enjoyable with the exception of the landing which was reminiscent of a Disney ride. We literally sailed through customs on the wings of Angels. Our word was taken that all our totes and baggage were of the correct weight. So they never bothered to take the extra time to weigh them, making it so much smoother than usual. They also allowed us to take on the 28 extra totes we were carrying without charging the extra fee that we had expected. Jeff B. has formed a wonderful relationship with American Airlines over the years and now our name and honesty has brought us into great favor. Because of the serious snow storm the airlines had canceled several flights to Miami and the flight was over booked and had way too much cargo weight for all of our baggage and totes to be loaded on. So we were missing 63 of the totes and 13 bags of luggage when we arrived in Honduras. All of the personal luggage arrived yesterday but only a few of the totes. We are expecting the rest of the totes to arrive today. Unfortunately all of the dental supply totes are still missing so we were not able to open that clinic today as hopped for. The construction team started their work yesterday with the help of the medical team who were still waiting for medical totes to arrive. The unity in their work was something to be admired. There is a very steep hill next to the building area and it was at the top of the hill where about 2,500 bricks were stacked. The team stood side by side in a trailing line and passed about 2,000 of those bricks down the hill. Others of the team were busy using those bricks to build the walls. Everyone was covered in dirt and dust from the mortar, but the biggest thing they were covered with was a smile on their face along with joy in their hearts for being allowed the privilege of service. Brian C. estimates that 690 bricks were put down yesterday and now we are officially on our way we that project being about 1/5 done.
We are very excited this year about having a evangelistic program targeted at the youth of the area. Juan Cabrera, a former gang leader before his encounter with Christ forever changed his life is leading out in this effort. His testimony and love for the Lords work is so exciting and we know the Lord will use him mightily. There seems to be an electric charge in the air here and I am sure it is from all those angel wings overlapping each other. Juan is bilingual and will use the Spanish language to reach the youth. Rigo Dawkins who is the Director of the school we built on Guanaja is here to help and will also work with Juan in this effort. About 250 brochures were printed to announce the meetings and many of our people went in to the town and handed them out to all the youth and young adults. The team doing this was suppose to leave at 2:30 p.m. but circumstances were such that we did not get into town until 3:15. This turned out to be the Lords timing, for we were no sooner situated in the streets when school was let out for the day and they had to pass right by us. Later, another 250 brochures were taken down the University and passed out. While in town we also stopped at the orphanage hoping to speak with the director to set our time for childrens evangelism program. This will take place this Sabbath at 3 Oclock. The children all ran out to shake our hand or have their picture taken. It certainly was a heart wrenching sight. As clean and well kept as the orphanage was and as clean and well mannered as the children were, you just knew by looking into those eyes that there you knew that love of a devoted parent was absent. Kim took many photos of the children and she plans to surprise them with a slide show presentation when we come on Sabbath.
How thankful we are to be here in Honduras and watch the beautiful petals of faith and works unfold for the glory of God. Knowing that as the dew from heaven pours upon these people with its sweet life giving water, that we too we will feel those drops and be revived and refreshed in Him and for Him.
Pray for our mission, that Satans hands will be bound. We will pray for you and we miss you all.
But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. Ps.5:11
Smiles to you, Jennifer Young Mission reporter |
